Despite popular opinion, when Andy Haden jumped out of the lineout to invoke a penalty against the 1978 Wales team, the referee Roger Quintenton maintains that he awarded the penalty for another foul on Frank Oliver.

In 1983 Andy Haden claimed to be a professional writer. By doing so, he could avoid penalties from the rugby union for the receipt of royalties for his book, Boots 'n All!

Andy Haden claimed in his autobiography, Lock, Stock 'n Barrel in 1988 that South Africa is the toughest country to tour, and predicted that the All Blacks will never win a series in South Africa. Eight years later he was proved wrong.

The match programme for the fourth test against the Lions in 1983 initially included a full page advert for Andy Haden's autobiography, Boots 'n All! The advert was ditched and the programme was printed with a blank page.
